Welcome Benjamin

It was another special School Prayer this week. We welcomed Benjamin on his birthday to Sacred Heart Petone. Malia and his friends from Barnados walked him down to school. He has been going there for 3 years and Malia was very sad to say goodbye. But don't worry Malia we'll be down to visit soon and you can come see us too.

Mum, big sisters Ella and Amelie introduced him to us. Little brother Ernie was there too. Welcome Benjamin we are thrilled to have you join us. Benjamin's big buddy Joel helped put our special korowai on.

Monarch Butterfly Time

In Tui we've been keeping a close eye on our swan plant and its inhabitants. One morning we came into find our first chrysalis had hatched into a beautiful monarch butterfly. We've also watched as our small caterpillar munched its way through nearly all the leaves until it was a big fat caterpillar. Then it became very still for a couple of days and one morning we watched it wriggle wiggle and turn itself into a chrysalis! We've read to it, Jarvis thought The Hungry Caterpillar would be it's favourite book.

Welcome Eva and family

On Monday we welcomed Eva and her family to Sacred Heart Petone. Her friend Colleen also came along and shared a very special prayer with us. Eva is really lucky to have  Meg as her special buddy and Scarlett looks after her as well. It's great having you here Eva.

Special visitors to Tui

We were so lucky in Tui class this week. Oliver's Poppa and Granny came into class to talk us about traveling all the way from England. We looked at the Globe and found both New Zealand and England on it. It was amazing to learn about how far and long it was to fly there, how planes have to stop to refuel and explore why it's night in one place and day in another. Poppa even spent time before the bell chatting to people from other classes.

The Summer fun continues...

It was another short week at school and quite a busy one.
We started our daily swimming programme at McKenzie Baths. The hot summer weather has meant we are very keen for a nice refreshing dip. Our instructors from Learn to Swim think we are awesome too.

On Wednesday we celebrated Ash Wednesday with our school community. We are learning all about Lent in class.

One of Tui Classes celebrities came on Wednesday to start his weekly ball skills programme. We are so lucky that Fafa Bob, George's granddad still  wants to come to Tui even though George has moved on.

Fun- Filled Fridays

Fridays are an extra special day here at Sacred Heart. We have a wonderful session called "Discovery Time'. Everyone across the Junior Team takes charge of their own learning and chooses which activities they want to do. We gather first to discuss the terms focus, today we brainstormed what RESPECT would look like at Discovery Time. Each week there is a different theme, this week it was summer. Teachers organise a variety of fun hands on activities related to the theme. We cover a variety of curriculum, Science, Health, PE, Arts and Technology but the main areas of focus are the Key Competences. The sharing, problem solving and relationship building is fantastic to watch. Here a few of the things we got up to today. It's so much fun please join us if you can Fridays 11 to 12.
